Swimming

If you are here during the summer, you will be pleased to know that Castello de Rugat has its own lovely outdoor swimming pool.

Set on the edge of the village, next to the Sports Centre and modern, all-weather football pitch, the large pool has lanes roped off for serious swimmers, an area for those who just want to splash about and a children’s pool.

Around the pool is a grassed area for sunbathing and relaxing with trees for shade, and there is a restaurant attached to the Sports centre.

The pool is walking distance to the house but as it is about 0.75 miles away you may prefer to drive. There is a large free car park which is entered from the CV705, the road that goes out past the Maronda Electrical Shop towards Salem and Beniarrés.

Note that the pool is usually only open from mid-June until early September when the Spanish children go back to school.

The closest indoor swimming pool is at L’Olleria, which is just over 11 miles away and is open year-round.

For us though the best place for swimming is the sea. The sea is warm for much of the year and we have even been swimming on Christmas day. The Spanish thought we were mad but even in December the water of the Mediterranean is warmer than it is in the UK.
