Natural Pools

There are several areas where you can appreciate natural water features and even enjoy swimming or paddling in the water.  (Please be aware that there may be restrictions in place due to the pandemic).

Some of the most popular places are:

Pou Clar

Important Notebecause it is so popular, in July and August access to Pou Clar is limited and is only by pre-booking online. Please speak to us if you would like information on how to book.

A small river flows through this beautiful area of dramatic rock pools and modest waterfalls just outside Bocairent.

It is popular for swimming with those that don’t mind the cold water.

Anna

The highlights are the El Gorgo de las Escaleras, a hidden gorge where you descent a steep staircase to reach the shallow water at the bottom), the waterfall of El Salto and Gorgo Catalan where you can swim with the fish. (Escaleras = stairs).

There are some great walks and hikes in the varied countryside around the town but it is also worth taking a stroll around the town itself to see the various fountains, old wash houses and other features.

There is also a fantastic small, Moorish style palace here but visits must be pre-booked.

Tip 1. The sign-posting to the various points of interest leaves a lot to be desired. Plan the timing of your visit so that you stop off at the small tourist information office on the outskirts of the town, or download a good map beforehand.

Tip 2.  El Gorgo de las Escaleras is particularly confusing to find, as you first need to go down a little single-track, one-way road that leads out of the village. There is then what appears to be a large empty parking lot next to an old industrial building. You can park here and then it is a short walk, further along the road and then left along the side of a field of orange trees, to the top of the stairs.

Font Salada

Located in La Marjal Oliva-Pego natural park close to Oliva, Font Salada is a thermal spring. The temperature of the salty water usually remains between 21°C and 23°C: the perfect temperature to take a dip all year round. Set in a beautiful little area, with several walking trails and a waterside restaurant/bar where you can relax.

Tip: Although it is just off the N332 going south from Oliva to Pego, make sure you have good directions and a map as some sat-navs seem unable to find it and the signage is a little lacking.
